Trouble.Shoot is a comedic top down shoot’em up that focuses on boss encounters. You play as Maegyn a fresh graduate who doesn’t really know what to do with her life. One day she got into a fight with her parents; about a trivial matter that no one remembers. During the fight her parents pulled an ultimatum; “as long as you live under our roof, you live by our rules.” After that she decided to move out, and work at a local call center near her place. Follow her journey as she grinds the day away dealing with dense, obnoxious, and downright disrespectful clients.
This is the tutorial sequence. Right after players hit START they’re immediately brought into this scene. During development I’ve received comments such as “the tutorial is too long.” Starting here allows us to introduce all the core mechanics of the game in under 2 minutes. The down side to this that we had to sacrifice setting up the context of the game properly.
Jose Umilaw. The first boss fight in the game. The fight takes place in a 3 x 3 square grid. There are turrets that spawns on the corners of the arena, and lasers that intersect. The boss hovers around the square. This fight cages the player in tight areas to see how well they can dodge mechanics.
Spencer Terry; the second boss of the game. This fight takes place on a circular platform that is divided into 4 quadrants. The boss' attacks include a “Scythe Sweep” that spawn crescent like projectiles, a “Hammer Pound” wherein the boss will disappear and appear near the player to deliver a ground AoE, and a bomb where the boss throws a bomb at a quadrant causing that area to sink.
Jefferson Dizon, the last boss of the game. This fight takes place in a circular arena. The fight involves a large barrage of slipper projectiles that the player needs to dodge. The boss uses the circular arena by moving around it while firing slippers at the player. This fight will really see how well the player can dodge and shoot trouble.
This project was done as a requirement for the Game Design and Development program.
